THE PROJECT
History of the project :
In October 2006 was held the first homage to the painter Fluoman. It is in the form of a festival of reggae that some of its paintings were exposed in bottom of scenes. The public, present in Chartres this evening, could appreciate the spectacular dimension of the works placed at the rear of international artists such as “The Congos” and “Lone Ranger”.
Thereafter, the association “Arc in fluo” took part in the organization of exposures of paintings of Fluoman. First of all, in Aix in Provence in March 2007, then in Chartres for a first retrospective from July 13th to September 3rd.
Through these demonstrations, we realized that the work of Fluoman should be accessible to all, which is not yet the case today.
This is the reason why we wish to invest in the realization of a musical tribute project around the work of Fluoman. As a footbridge between arts, the aim of the project is to perpetuate the will that the painter had to associate the sound to the visual in his work.
Indeed the heart of target is the international reggae and rasta public as well as the art lovers.
Producing such a project will also make it possible to touch the schools and institutions of art.
The Music :
It is a rare occasion today to see a great number of international rastas artists, but also musicians coming from various musical horizons investing together for an album having painting for background.
Fluoman took part in the rise of the reggae and rasta culture throughout his life. Through its fabrics, artists react spontaneously to the “Fluo” vibration. From this energy emerges a musical project as a homage to Fluoman.
The instrumental sessions are recorded in the south of France, in a place where the painter liked to go and where he attended the mixing and sound recordings , brushes in the hand. The musicians, gathered for the occasion under the name of FluoSystem, distil a reggae roots which sound purely jamaïcaine of the Seventies.
Powerful low battery, bewitching riddims, original percussions and coppers are the basic ingredients of the pieces suggested to the singers.
All the musical part is supervised by Elijah, Fluoman’s son. The versions were carried out at the end of the artists concerts, in cabins, hotel rooms… To carry out these recordings, Elijah, Fabien and Fred to move with a mobile studio of numerical recording and all the material necessary for the sound recording.
This approach is voluntarily close to that of Fluoman which always moved with its bag of paintings to create new works.
Some artists worked with Fluoman, their presence is thus essential on the first album as a homage to the painter... Some others discovered the works of Fluoman and decided to pay their tribute.
Lastly, the visuals (pockets and booklets) will be carried out starting from paintings of Fluoman, like for the small pockets of discs of Burning Spear, Culture, Steel Pulse, Yabby You or Tonton David for whom Fluoman worked.
